Growth & Divine Blessings

Reflecting on the graces and milestones that have shaped our mission, we share our story of growth, guided by faith and sustained by divine providence. Each step has been a blessing, enabling us to sow peace and harvest hope in profound wA Blessing: The Growth of the Mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Gerona in Kenya Everything began on 16th January 2020,when the first Sisters of Saint Joseph of Gerona set foot in Kenya, carrying in their hearts the spirit of faith, simplicity, and service. It was the dawn of a new mission — full of hope, though unknowingly arriving at the threshold of a world crisis. Only a few weeks later, the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The world stood still, and so did we. Yet, what seemed like an obstacle became a hidden blessing. Confined in the community of Karen, we found unexpected friends and teachers in the Marist Brothers, who welcomed us with open hearts. They helped us to learn English and Kiswahili, turning isolation into a time of growth and discovery.

Acquisition Land

Acquisition of the Land at Ngong, Kibiko (2021) After a period of prayer, discernment, and planning, the year 2021 marked an important milestone in the growth of the Mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Gerona in Kenya: the acquisition of a piece of land at Kibiko, Ngong, within the Diocese of Ngong. The process began with the search for a suitable site a place that would offer serenity, accessibility, and a welcoming environment for community life and apostolic service. With the guidance of local Church authorities and the support of the Congregation, several possible plots were visited and evaluated in terms of size, location, security, and cost. After careful consultation, a promising parcel of land in Kibiko was identified. The area, known for its peaceful hills and proximity to Ngong town, provided the ideal setting for prayer, service, and future development. Once the decision was made, the sisters proceeded with the legal and administrative steps required for acquisition. The acquisition of the land in Kibiko, Ngong, in 2021 was not only a legal or material achievement, but a spiritual foundation the planting of a seed of faith, hope, and service. What began as a simple dream has since grown into a living mission: a place of prayer, care, and community for all.

Acquisition Land

This plot, initially just barren earth, became the fertile ground upon which our mission was built. It symbolizes the firm foundation of our faith and the generosity that has sustained us. This sacred space allows us to create a haven for prayer, community life, and outreach, fulfilling our vision to serve those in need. Their brotherly support, together with Brother Baskar, a Claretian, helped us to purchase a piece of land in Kibiko B, in the Diocese of Ngong — a dream becoming reality.Receiving this land was nothing short of a miracle. It transformed our dreams into a tangible reality, giving us roots to grow and a place to truly call home for our mission.

Incoreporation in Kenya

The year marked a turning point of gratitude and wonder at God’s mysterious ways. What began in 2020 as a small seed of faith had now taken deep root in Kenyan soil. Through prayer, discernment, and trust in Divine Providence, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Gerona recognized their mission in Ngong, Kibiko as a lasting call. With the blessing of their General Council and the Church, they undertook the process of legal and ecclesial incorporation—drafting statutes, registering as a religious institution, and obtaining official recognition from both the State and the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya. This incorporation was more than a legal act; it was a sign of God’s faithfulness and the maturity of a mission now firmly rooted in Kenya—ready to welcome vocations, serve with joy, and continue sowing peace and hope.

The Borehole: A Spring of Life

Borehole Water Project

The year 2024 brought more blessings. With the help of our General Government, we received a borehole of clean water and fenced our land — tangible signs of stability and hope. In June 2024, our joy overflowed once more when the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our dear friends, gifted us a car for the mission — a true blessing for our apostolic work. Access to clean water is a fundamental need and a profound blessing. The drilling of our borehole transformed not only our community but also the lives of our neighbors. What was once a challenge became a source of life, health, and dignity. This project stands as a testament to practical compassion and sustainable development, providing an essential resource and reducing the burden on countless families.

"Before the borehole, fetching water was a daily struggle. Now, with clean water readily available, our children are healthier, and we have more time for education and community activities. It's truly a blessing from God." - Local Resident

The Gift of a Car: Divine Providence

Gift of a Car

In June 2024, God blessed our young mission with a beautiful sign of His providence. The Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, led by Sr. Maria Eugenia, generously offered us a new car for our ministry in Kenya. This gift has greatly enhanced our ability to reach the sick, the elderly, and distant communities, and to support the Sisters in their studies and apostolic work. Each journey we make is now a journey of service, gratitude, and love.

s "The car was a game-changer. It means we can respond faster to emergencies, visit more families, and ensure our sisters can attend important training without logistical hurdles. It's truly a tool for God's work." - Sister Maria

Formation of Sisters

Sisters in Formation

In November 2022, a new joy filled our hearts when one of us succeeded in the National Examination of the Nursing Council. From 31st January to August, she served at Ngong Hospital, working with the government and bringing compassionate care to many. Meanwhile, other Sisters joined us for formation at Tangaza University, Consolata Institute, and Marist University, ensuring that our mission continues to grow in wisdom and service. The spiritual and intellectual formation of our sisters is paramount. Investing in their education and ongoing development ensures they are well-equipped to face the challenges of ministry and leadership. Whether attending theological studies, leadership workshops, or specialized training, each sister's growth enriches our entire community and strengthens our capacity to serve God and His people with greater wisdom and compassion.

"My formation experience has deepened my spiritual life and equipped me with invaluable skills to serve the most vulnerable. It's a continuous journey of learning and growing in Christ." - Sister Rose

Land Fencing and Development

Community Fencing and Development

The systematic development and fencing of our property represent foresight and commitment to creating a safe, functional, and beautiful environment for our community and visitors. Beyond security, this development includes the establishment of gardens, sustainable infrastructure, and spaces for communal gatherings. It fosters a sense of order and peace, reflecting our vision of a community rooted in simplicity and joy, contributing positively to the surrounding area.

"The improvements to the land, especially the fencing and gardens, have transformed our mission center into a peaceful and secure place. It truly feels like a blossoming oasis of hope." - A Community Volunteer

Faith in Action (2020 - 2025)

Over these five years, faith became life — lived in prayer, service, and learning. In 2022, one of our Sisters succeeded in the National Nursing Examination and served at Ngong Hospital, bringing care and comfort to the sick. Other Sisters began studies at Tangaza University, Consolata Institute, and Marist University, deepening their formation. In 2024, with the help of our General Government, we received the gift of a borehole and fenced our land, making it safer and more fruitful. That same year, our mission received a precious car from the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus — a providential gift inspired by Sister Maria Eugenia, their Superior. This car became a blessing for visiting the poor and the elderly, taking Sisters to school, and reaching hospitals. We were officially incorporated in Kenya and became members of the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK) — a sign of our rootedness in this local Church. Some Sisters, after health challenges, were healed and strengthened, while others continued their studies and pastoral work. Through joys and trials alike, God's hand has never left us.

Serving with Compassion and Gratitude

As we celebrate five years of mission in Kenya, our hearts are filled with thanksgiving. We lift our prayers to God, the source of every blessing, and we remember with affection and gratitude all who have walked with us on this journey: The Marist Brothers, who welcomed and taught us. Bishop John Obala, who blessed and supported our community. Brother Baskar, Lawyer James, and all who offered their guidance and friendship. Our Congregation, for continuous support and faith in our mission. The Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, especially Sister Maria Eugenia, for their providential gift. Our neighbors, the sick, the poor and the rich alike, who share life and joy with us. Together, we have lived this journey of faith, hope, and love. Every person, every challenge, and every smile has been a piece of God's great plan. “The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.” — Psalm 126:3
